The term abandonee refers to a party to whom a right, interest or propery is abandoned or relinquished by another. This term is generally used to refer to the insurer to whom a ship or cargo is abandoned.

Abandonment of Slave or Animal
(Obsolete Legal Term) The Civil Law permitted a master who was sued for his slave’s tort, or the owner of an animal who was sued for an injury done by it, to abandon the slave or animal to the person injured, and thus relieve himself from further liability.
